“Avatar”

“Avatar” PG-13

Release Date: 18 December 2009

Director: James Cameron

Running Time: 162 min

Grade: A/A-

Avatar was an amazing technological feat. This remains to be the most fantastic special effects oriented movie out there, meaning it sets new standards for movies to come. Performance capture tech is used to create the life like creatures of the “Na’vi”. I personally suggest you look up some of this, because it’s pretty cool.  The script isn’t a literary masterpiece, so don’t expect to be blown away by James Cameron’s writing. But be prepared to be blown away by the effects, you’ll want to have your own ‘Avatar’ at the end.

A must see,

Peter Jackson’s District 9

“District 9” R

Release Date: 14 August 2009

Director: Neill Blomkamp

Running Time: 112 min

Grade: B+/A-

District 9 is an amazing film, and I recommend watching it. It centers around real illegal aliens, that have landed in Johannesburg, South Africa. It’s gritty, it’s raw, and it’s also a debut film for Neill Blomkamp. He does a superb job capturing the film as a documentary with hand held shots, and capturing it as a hollywood film. The acting from the main character was great for a first timer. Sharlto Copley gives a believable and disturbing performance. Sometimes the film is too gritty, and sometimes you just don’t want the hand held shots. You want to really look at the aliens, and sometimes the shaky camerawork gets in the way of that. Cool special effects for sure, and I’m almost positive we can expect a sequel.

check it out,
